About the position

Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is seeking a Civil Graduate Engineer to join our Public Infrastructure team. This position is open to all recent graduates and December 2024 and May 2025 graduates. Westwood is rated as a 2024 Best Firm to Work For! The expected start date for this role is January 2025 or May/June 2025. As a Civil Graduate Engineer, you will work closely with licensed Civil Engineers, gaining valuable experience and knowledge of the company's standard practices and local agency codes. Your role will involve contributing to public infrastructure projects, performing technical calculations, producing plans and specifications, and assisting in project management tasks. This position is ideal for individuals who are organized, self-motivated, and capable of collaboratively solving complex issues on time and within budget, as you pursue your Professional Engineering license. You will be part of a highly experienced and dynamic team dedicated to providing high-level professional services to our clients. Your responsibilities will include assisting the project team in the design of public infrastructure work, preparing construction drawings, technical specifications, and contract documents, as well as preparing engineering reports, feasibility studies, and utility evaluations. You will also coordinate with agency staff and internal support teams on designs and analyses, utilizing various software tools to develop calculations, reports, and presentations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist project team in design of public infrastructure work
  • Assist project team in preparation of construction drawings, technical specifications, and contract documents
  • Prepare engineering reports, feasibility studies, and utility evaluations
  • Prepare various exhibits and design drawings using AutoCAD Civil3D, Bluebeam, and MicroStations
  • Coordinate with agency staff and internal support teams on designs, analysis, and issues
  • Utilize Microsoft Office Suite to develop calculations in Excel, reports and letters in Word, and presentations in PowerPoint
  • Assist with construction drawings using AutoCAD Civil3D and/or MicroStations including grading plans; plan and profiles; construction details; etc.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, or the ability to obtain within 6-12 months
  • Engineer-in-Training Certificate, or the ability to obtain within 6-12 months
  • Basic knowledge of AutoCAD Civil3D software
  • Outgoing, friendly, approachable (team player)
  • Strong communication skills with team members and clients, demonstrates active listening techniques
  • Proficient in computer software (Word, Excel, AutoCAD, Civil3D, MicroStations, Outlook, Microsoft Project)
  • Competent technical skills required to complete engineering tasks
  • Able to pro-actively pursue design solutions
  • Ability to be open to other's ideas and willing to compromise
  • Detail-oriented but also flexible enough to be big picture/conceptual
  • Good reputation among peers, clients, and agencies
  • Able to follow general directions and guidelines for the firm's policies, practices, and procedures
  • A supportive team member with the ability to work both independently and within a collaborative environment
