About the position

Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is seeking a Civil Graduate Engineer to join our Infrastructure Design team. This position is ideal for recent graduates or those looking to start their careers in civil engineering. The Civil Graduate Engineer will work closely with licensed Civil Engineers, gaining valuable experience and knowledge of the company's standard practices and local agency codes. The role involves significant involvement in public infrastructure projects, where the engineer will perform technical calculations, assist in the production of plans and specifications, and support project management tasks. This position is designed for individuals who are organized, self-motivated, and capable of collaboratively solving complex issues while adhering to project timelines and budgets. As part of the Infrastructure Design team, the Civil Graduate Engineer will assist in the design of various public infrastructure projects, including water and sanitary sewer lines, roadways, water plants, lift stations, and wastewater treatment facilities. The engineer will also be responsible for preparing construction drawings, technical specifications, and contract documents, as well as engineering reports, feasibility studies, and utility evaluations. Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil3D and Bluebeam is essential for preparing design drawings and exhibits. The role requires coordination with agency staff and internal support teams to address design issues and analysis, ensuring that all project requirements are met efficiently. In pursuit of a Professional Engineering license, the Civil Graduate Engineer will be expected to develop their technical skills and knowledge while contributing to the team's success. Responsibilities

  • Assist project team in design of public infrastructure such as water & sanitary sewer lines, roadways, water plants, lift stations, wastewater treatment facilities, etc.
  • Assist project team in preparation of construction drawings, technical specifications, and contract documents.
  • Prepare engineering reports, feasibility studies, and utility evaluations.
  • Prepare various exhibits and design drawings using AutoCAD Civil3D & Bluebeam.
  • Coordinate with agency staff and internal support teams on designs, analysis, and issues.
  • Utilize Microsoft Office Suite to develop calculations in Excel, reports and letters in Word, and presentations in PowerPoint.
  • Assist with construction drawings using AutoCAD Civil3D including grading plans; plan and profiles; construction details; storm drain, water and sewer facilities; signage and striping plans.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, or the ability to obtain within 6-12 months.
  • Engineer-in-Training Certificate, or the ability to obtain within 6-12 months.
  • Basic knowledge of AutoCAD Civil3D software.
  • Outgoing, friendly, approachable (team player).
  • Strong communication skills with team members and clients, demonstrates active listening techniques.
  • Proficient in computer software (Word, Excel, AutoCAD, Civil3D, Outlook, Microsoft Project).
  • Competent technical skills required to complete engineering tasks.
  • Able to proactively pursue design solutions.
  • Ability to be open to other's ideas and willing to compromise.
  • Detail-oriented but also flexible enough to be big picture/conceptual.
  • Good reputation amongst peers, clients, and agencies.
  • Able to follow general directions and guidelines for the firm's policies, practices, and procedures.
  • A supportive team member with the ability to work both independently and within a collaborative environment.
