About the position

Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is seeking a Civil Graduate Engineer to join our Public Infrastructure team. This position is open to all recent graduates and December 2024 and May 2025 graduates. Westwood is rated as a 2024 Best Firm to Work For! The expected start date for this role is January 2025 or May/June 2025. As a Civil Graduate Engineer, you will work closely with licensed Civil Engineers, gaining valuable experience while learning the company's standard practices and local agency codes. Your role will involve contributing to public infrastructure projects, performing technical calculations, and assisting in the production of plans and specifications. You will also be involved in project management tasks, which will help you in your pursuit of a Professional Engineering license. The ideal candidate should be organized, self-motivated, and capable of collaboratively solving complex issues on time and within budget. In this position, you will assist the project team in designing public infrastructure work, preparing construction drawings, technical specifications, and contract documents. You will also prepare engineering reports, feasibility studies, and utility evaluations, and create various exhibits and design drawings using software such as AutoCAD Civil3D, Bluebeam, and MicroStations. Coordination with agency staff and internal support teams will be essential, as will utilizing Microsoft Office Suite for developing calculations, reports, and presentations.

Responsibilities

• Assist project team in design of public infrastructure work
• Assist project team in preparation of construction drawings, technical specifications, and contract documents
• Prepare engineering reports, feasibility studies, and utility evaluations
• Prepare various exhibits and design drawings using AutoCAD Civil3D, Bluebeam, and MicroStations
• Coordinate with agency staff and internal support teams on designs, analysis, and issues
• Utilize Microsoft Office Suite to develop calculations in Excel, reports and letters in Word, and presentations in PowerPoint
• Assist with construction drawings using AutoCAD Civil3D and/or MicroStations including grading plans; plan and profiles; construction details; etc.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, or the ability to obtain within 6-12 months
• Engineer-in-Training Certificate, or the ability to obtain within 6-12 months
• Basic knowledge of AutoCAD Civil3D software
• Outgoing, friendly, approachable (team player)
• Strong communication skills with team members and clients, demonstrates active listening techniques
• Proficient in computer software (Word, Excel, AutoCAD, Civil3D, MicroStations, Outlook, Microsoft Project)
• Competent technical skills required to complete engineering tasks
• Able to pro-actively pursue design solutions
• Ability to be open to other's ideas and willing to compromise
• Detail-oriented but also flexible enough to be big picture/conceptual
• Good reputation among peers, clients, and agencies
• Able to follow general directions and guidelines for the firm's policies, practices, and procedures
