About the position

Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is seeking a Civil Graduate Engineer to join our Land Development team in our San Antonio, TX office. This position is designed for a recent graduate or an individual who is in the process of obtaining their degree in civil or environmental engineering. The Civil Graduate Engineer will work closely with a licensed Civil Engineer, gaining hands-on experience and learning the company's standard practices and local agency codes. A significant portion of the role will involve becoming proficient in AutoCAD Civil3D, which is essential for preparing various design drawings and exhibits. The ideal candidate will be organized, self-motivated, and possess strong problem-solving skills to address complex engineering challenges effectively. The role requires collaboration with agency staff and internal teams to ensure designs meet all necessary requirements and standards. The Civil Graduate Engineer will also be responsible for preparing entitlement documents, calculating quantities using Microsoft Excel, and assisting with construction drawings, including grading plans and utility layouts. Responsibilities

  • Prepare various exhibits and design drawings using AutoCAD Civil3D
  • Coordinate with agency staff and internal support teams on designs, analysis, and issues
  • Prepare entitlement documents in support of Tentative Maps, Vacations, Zone Changes, Entitlements, etc.
  • Calculate quantities using Microsoft Excel and prepare justification letters using Microsoft Word
  • Assist with construction drawings using AutoCAD Civil3D, including grading plans, plan and profiles, construction details, and storm drain, water, and sewer facilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering, or the ability to obtain within 6-12 months
  • Engineer-in-Training Certificate, or the ability to obtain within 6-12 months
  • Basic knowledge of AutoCAD Civil3D software
  • Strong communication skills with team members and clients, demonstrating active listening techniques
  • Proficient in computer software (Word, Excel, AutoCAD, Civil3D, Outlook, Microsoft Project)
  • Competent technical skills required to complete engineering tasks
  • Detail-oriented but flexible enough to be big picture/conceptual
  • Ability to follow general directions and guidelines for the firm's policies, practices, and procedures
