About the position

Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is seeking a Civil Graduate Engineer I to join our Commercial Land Development team in our Austin, TX office. This position is designed for recent graduates or those with limited experience in civil engineering, providing an opportunity to work under the guidance of a licensed Civil Engineer. The role involves supporting various engineering tasks while learning the company's standard practices and local agency codes. A significant portion of the job will focus on becoming proficient in AutoCAD Civil3D, a critical software tool for civil engineering design and drafting. As a Civil Graduate Engineer I, you will be expected to prepare various exhibits and design drawings using AutoCAD Civil3D. This includes coordination with agency staff and internal support teams to address design issues and analysis. You will also be responsible for preparing entitlement documents that support Tentative Maps, Vacations, Zone Changes, and other entitlements. Additionally, you will calculate quantities using Microsoft Excel and draft justification letters with Microsoft Word. The role will also involve assisting with the creation of construction drawings, including grading plans, plan and profiles, construction details, and plans for storm drain, water, and sewer facilities. The ideal candidate will be organized, self-motivated, and possess strong problem-solving skills to address complex engineering challenges on time and within budget. Responsibilities

  • Prepare various exhibits and design drawings using AutoCAD Civil3D
  • Coordinate with agency staff and internal support teams on designs, analysis, and issues
  • Prepare entitlement documents in support of Tentative Maps, Vacations, Zone Changes, Entitlements, etc.
  • Calculate quantities using Microsoft Excel and draft justification letters using Microsoft Word
  • Assist with construction drawings using AutoCAD Civil3D including grading plans, plan and profiles, construction details, storm drain, water and sewer facilities, signage and striping plan

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering, or the ability to obtain within 6-12 months
  • Engineer-in-Training Certificate, or the ability to obtain within 6-12 months
  • Basic knowledge of AutoCAD Civil3D software
  • Strong communication skills with team members and clients, demonstrating active listening techniques
  • Proficient in computer software (Word, Excel, AutoCAD, Civil3D, Outlook, Microsoft Project)
  • Competent technical skills required to complete engineering tasks
  • Detail-oriented but also flexible enough to be big picture/conceptual
