About the position

Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is seeking a Civil Graduate Engineer to join our Land Development team in our Dallas, TX office. This position is designed for recent graduates or those with limited experience in civil engineering, providing an opportunity to work under the guidance of a licensed Civil Engineer. The role involves a significant amount of time dedicated to becoming proficient in AutoCAD Civil3D, which is essential for preparing various design drawings and exhibits. The Civil Graduate Engineer will be expected to learn the company's standard practices and local agency codes while contributing to the team's projects. As a Civil Graduate Engineer, you will be involved in the preparation of entitlement documents in support of Tentative Maps, Vacations, Zone Changes, and other entitlements. You will also assist in the calculation of quantities using Microsoft Excel and prepare justification letters using Microsoft Word. The position requires coordination with agency staff and internal support teams to address design issues and analyses. Additionally, you will assist with the creation of construction drawings, including grading plans, plan and profiles, construction details, and plans for storm drain, water, and sewer facilities. The ideal candidate will be organized, self-motivated, and possess strong problem-solving skills to collaboratively tackle complex engineering challenges while adhering to project timelines and budgets. Responsibilities

  • Prepare various exhibits and design drawings using AutoCAD Civil3D
  • Coordinate with agency staff and internal support teams on designs, analysis, and issues
  • Prepare entitlement documents in support of Tentative Maps, Vacations, Zone Changes, Entitlements, etc.
  • Calculate quantities using Microsoft Excel and prepare justification letters using Microsoft Word
  • Assist with construction drawings using AutoCAD Civil3D including grading plans, plan and profiles, construction details, storm drain, water and sewer facilities, signage and striping plan

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering, or the ability to obtain within 6-12 months
  • Engineer-in-Training Certificate, or the ability to obtain within 6-12 months
  • Basic knowledge of AutoCAD Civil3D software
  • Strong communication skills with team members and clients, demonstrating active listening techniques
  • Proficient in computer software (Word, Excel, AutoCAD, Civil3D, Outlook, Microsoft Project)
  • Competent technical skills required to complete engineering tasks
  • Detail-oriented but also flexible enough to be big picture/conceptual
