About the position

Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is seeking a Civil Graduate Engineer to join our Land Development team in the Plano, TX office. This position is designed for a recent graduate or an individual with limited experience in civil engineering, who is eager to learn and grow within a supportive team environment. The Civil Graduate Engineer will work closely with a licensed Civil Engineer, gaining hands-on experience and knowledge of the company's standard practices and local agency codes. A significant portion of the role will involve becoming proficient in AutoCAD Civil3D, a critical tool for design and drafting in civil engineering projects. The ideal candidate will be organized, self-motivated, and possess strong problem-solving skills to address complex engineering challenges effectively and efficiently. The role requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including agency staff and internal teams, to ensure that designs meet all necessary requirements and standards. The Civil Graduate Engineer will also be responsible for preparing various exhibits and design drawings, as well as assisting in the preparation of entitlement documents and construction drawings. Responsibilities

  • Prepare various exhibits and design drawings using AutoCAD Civil3D
  • Coordinate with agency staff and internal support teams on designs, analysis, and issues
  • Prepare entitlement documents in support of Tentative Maps, Vacations, Zone Changes, Entitlements, etc.
  • Calculate quantities using Microsoft Excel and prepare justification letters using Microsoft Word
  • Assist with construction drawings using AutoCAD Civil3D including grading plans, plan and profiles, construction details, storm drain, water and sewer facilities, signage and striping plan

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering, or the ability to obtain within 6-12 months
  • Engineer-in-Training Certificate, or the ability to obtain within 6-12 months
  • Proficient in computer software (Word, Excel, AutoCAD, Civil3D, Outlook, Microsoft Project)
  • Competent technical skills required to complete engineering tasks
  • Strong communication skills with team members and clients, demonstrates active listening techniques
  • Detail-oriented but also flexible enough to be big picture/conceptual
  • Able to follow general directions and guidelines for the firm's policies, practices, and procedures

Nice-to-haves

  • Basic knowledge of AutoCAD Civil3D software
