About the position

Goldberg Segalla, a dynamic and collaborative law firm with a national presence, is seeking a highly motivated and organized individual to join its Florida team as a Civil Litigation Paralegal. This position is essential for providing a wide range of legal support to supervising attorneys, requiring the ability to multitask effectively and balance multiple requests and projects on a daily basis. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical and organizational skills, along with a keen attention to detail. The paralegal will assist in maintaining files, conducting legal research, drafting documents, and communicating with clients and other parties involved in the cases. Knowledge of best law firm practices and the legal field is crucial for success in this role. The Civil Litigation Paralegal will be responsible for organizing and maintaining documents in both physical files and the firm's document management software. They will gather, maintain current evidence, and arrange legal documents for attorney review and case preparation. Additionally, the paralegal will assist lawyers during trials by handling exhibits, taking notes, or reviewing trial transcripts. This position also involves filing exhibits, briefs, appeals, and other legal documents with the court or opposing counsel after review and approval by a lawyer. The role requires reaching out to clients, witnesses, lawyers, and outside vendors to schedule interviews, meetings, or depositions, as well as locating and communicating with expert witnesses to prepare for Compulsory Medical Examinations (CMEs). This position is eligible for a hybrid or remote work schedule, providing flexibility in the work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist and provide a wide range of legal support to supervising attorney(s).
  • Maintain files and conduct legal research.
  • Draft legal documents and communicate with clients and other parties involved in cases.
  • Organize and maintain documents in physical files and the firm's document management software.
  • Gather, maintain current evidence, and arrange legal documents for attorney review and case preparation.
  • Obtain affidavits and other formal documents/statements for court use.
  • Assist lawyers during trials by handling exhibits, taking notes, or reviewing trial transcripts.
  • File exhibits, briefs, appeals, and other legal documents with the court or opposing counsel after review.
  • Reach out to clients, witnesses, lawyers, and outside vendors to schedule interviews, meetings, or depositions.
  • Locate and communicate with expert witnesses to schedule and prepare for Compulsory Medical Examinations (CMEs).

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience with insurance defense litigation.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Ability to multitask and balance multiple requests and projects.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of e-filing and preparation of discovery requests and motions.
  • Familiarity with legal documents and terminology.
  • Experience with recording billable hours and time entry methods.
  • Basic knowledge of general insurance industry guidelines for tracking billable time.
  • Understanding of the subpoena process for obtaining medical records and billing discovery.
