The Civil Professional Engineer position at the City of Madison, Alabama, involves administrative and professional civil engineering work, assisting the City Engineer in planning and coordinating activities within the Engineering Department. Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning and coordinating the design and construction of Public Works projects, including streets, sidewalks, multi-use paths, drainage systems, bridges, and recreational sites.
  • Support the implementation of the City's Capital Improvement Plans (CIP).
  • Work with construction project managers and site superintendents to manage projects under construction by city contractors.
  • Conduct on-site reviews of construction projects to ensure compliance with plans and specifications.
  • Perform traffic control planning and design functions, including surveys of traffic flows and conditions.
  • Review development plans and check design of infrastructure systems for compliance with standards.
  • Inspect infrastructure improvements for compliance and recommend acceptance into the City's maintenance program.
  • Research, prepare, and present studies and plans for city management and the City Council.
  • Advise management and officials on civil engineering matters.
  • Respond to citizens' complaints and concerns regarding infrastructure and public safety.
  • Provide coaching and guidance to Engineer 1 - 4 on various projects.

Requirements

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • Minimum of four years of experience in at least two of the five engineering areas: Traffic Engineering, Storm Drainage Design, Floodplain Management, MS4 Permit Management, Site/Subdivision.
  • Strong background in civil engineering principles and practices.
  • Ability to conduct inspections and ensure compliance with engineering standards.
