About the position

Timmons Group is seeking a Civil Project Engineer I/II for our Stormwater Group located in our Virginia Beach, VA office. This position is a full-time role within the Infrastructure Engineering division, focusing on the design and implementation of stormwater management projects. The successful candidate will be involved in various aspects of civil engineering, particularly in stormwater design, utilizing relevant office software and modeling technologies such as Civil 3D. The role requires a strong foundation in engineering principles, as well as the ability to apply these principles to real-world projects. The Civil Project Engineer will be responsible for designing portions of projects, completing calculations using engineering formulas, and preparing specifications for materials. This includes conducting thorough research and utilizing equipment catalogs to specify materials, installation methods, inspection processes, and payment items specific to each project. The engineer will also work on completing design details and plan sets, ensuring that all aspects of the project are well-documented and adhere to industry standards. In addition to design work, the role involves performing field observations, inspections, and data collection as directed by senior engineering staff. Effective communication with client staff and internal design teams is essential, as the engineer will need to relay information and collaborate on project goals. The position offers an excellent opportunity for recent graduates or early-career professionals to gain hands-on experience in civil engineering, particularly in the area of stormwater management.

Responsibilities

  • Design portions of a project using relevant office software, modeling, and Civil 3D technology.
  • Complete calculations using engineering formulas and skills and/or utilize computers to solve problems.
  • Prepare specifications for materials through research and equipment catalogs to specify materials, installation, inspection, and payment of items specific to a project.
  • Work to complete design details and plan sets.
  • Perform research and write objective summary reports used in the completion of project work or inspection.
  • Assist in the preparation of engineering and construction cost estimates.
  • Complete field observation, inspection, and data collection duties as directed by senior engineering staff.
  • Communicate with client staff and internal design team as directed by senior engineering staff.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's or master's degree in Civil Engineering, or a closely related degree.
  • Coursework or professional experience in civil engineering related to water is ideal.
  • EIT (Engineer in Training) preferred.
  • 0-4 years of experience in civil engineering design preferred.
  • Working knowledge of CADD and/or Civil 3D software (Civil 3D preferred).
