About the position

Timmons Group is seeking a Civil Project Engineer I/II - Traffic Analysis and Planning candidate for our Traffic Group located in our Columbia, SC office. This position is integral to our Infrastructure Engineering division, focusing on traffic analysis and planning. The successful candidate will be involved in various aspects of civil engineering projects, particularly those related to traffic systems. The role requires a blend of technical skills, creativity, and the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment. The candidate will be expected to design portions of projects using relevant office software, modeling, and CAD technology, ensuring that all designs meet the necessary standards and specifications. In this role, the engineer will complete calculations using engineering formulas and skills, utilizing computers to solve complex problems. The candidate will work diligently to complete design details and plan sets, ensuring accuracy and compliance with project requirements. Additionally, the engineer will perform research and write objective summary reports that contribute to the overall completion of project work. This includes assisting in the preparation of engineering and construction cost estimates, which are critical for project budgeting and planning. Field observation, inspection, and data collection duties will also be part of the responsibilities, as directed by senior engineering staff. Effective communication with client staff and the internal design team is essential, as the engineer will need to relay information and updates as directed by senior engineering personnel. Responsibilities

  • Design portions of a project using relevant office software, modeling and CAD technology
  • Complete calculations using engineering formulas and skills and/or utilizes computers in order to solve problems
  • Work to complete design details and plan sets
  • Perform research and write objective summary reports which are used in the completion of the project work
  • Assist in the preparation of engineering and construction cost estimates
  • Complete field observation, inspection and data collection duties as directed by senior engineering staff
  • Communicate with client staff and internal design team as directed by senior engineering staff

Requirements

  • A bachelor's or master's degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field
  • Between one and eight years of experience in Transportation / Traffic Engineering and site plan production
  • MicroStation proficiency is essential

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of Traffic Analyses, Traffic Safety, Traffic Forecasting, Traffic Signal Design, ITS Design, Signing Design, Traffic Management Plan Design, and/or Traffic Signal Timing is preferred
  • DOT experience preferred
  • EIT preferred
