About the position

Timmons Group is seeking a Civil Project Engineer II/III for our Private Land Development Group located in Ellicott City, MD. This position is integral to our Land Development Engineering division, where the successful candidate will be responsible for various aspects of civil engineering projects, particularly in private land development. The role requires a blend of technical skills, creativity, and collaboration with both clients and internal teams to ensure project success. The Civil Project Engineer will design portions of projects using relevant office software, including modeling and Civil 3D technology. This involves completing calculations using engineering formulas and skills, as well as utilizing computers to solve complex problems. The engineer will prepare specifications and materials by conducting thorough research and referencing manufacturing catalogs to ensure the correct materials are specified for installation, inspection, and payment related to project items. In addition to design work, the engineer will be tasked with completing design details and plan sets, performing research, and writing objective summary reports that contribute to the overall project work or inspection. The role also includes assisting in the preparation of engineering and construction cost estimates, as well as conducting field observations, inspections, and data collection as directed by senior engineering staff. Effective communication with client staff and the internal design team is essential, as the engineer will be expected to relay information and updates as directed by senior engineering personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Design portions of a project using relevant office software, modeling, and Civil 3D technology.
  • Complete calculations using engineering formulas and skills and/or utilize computers to solve problems.
  • Prepare specifications and materials through research and manufacturing catalogs to specify materials, installation, inspection, and payment of items specific to a project.
  • Work to complete design details and plan sets.
  • Perform research and write objective summary reports used in the completion of project work or inspection.
  • Assist in the preparation of engineering and construction cost estimates.
  • Complete field observation, inspection, and data collection duties as directed by senior engineering staff.
  • Communicate with client staff and internal design team as directed by senior engineering staff.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's or master's degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related degree.
  • Two to ten years of experience in Land Development civil engineering, including residential neighborhood design as well as commercial and mixed-use development.
  • EIT preferred.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D is a must.
