About the position

Timmons Group is seeking a Civil Project Engineer II/III for our Residential Land Development Group located in Wilmington, NC. This position is integral to our Land Development Engineering division, which focuses on both residential and commercial projects. Our commercial team is involved in retail and commercial projects, multi-family developments, including mixed-use developments and market-rate apartment communities, as well as large-scale industrial and distribution projects. Meanwhile, our residential team specializes in the design of residential neighborhoods. In this role, you will assist clients with zoning entitlements, civil site plan approvals, and provide construction administration support. As a project engineer, you will typically collaborate in a team of 2-3 design engineers alongside a project manager to bring our clients' visions to fruition. The dynamic and fast-paced nature of our clients' needs fosters a culture of teamwork and diverse training opportunities, allowing team members to take ownership of the successful outcomes of their projects. The essential duties and responsibilities of a successful candidate include designing portions of projects using relevant office software, modeling, and Civil 3D technology. You will be responsible for completing calculations using engineering formulas and skills, preparing specifications for materials through research and manufacturing catalogs, and working to complete design details and plan sets. Additionally, you will perform research and write objective summary reports that contribute to project completion or inspection, assist in preparing engineering and construction cost estimates, and conduct field observations, inspections, and data collection as directed by senior engineering staff. Effective communication with client staff and the internal design team is also a key aspect of this role, as directed by senior engineering staff.

Responsibilities

  • Design portions of a project using relevant office software, modeling, and Civil 3D technology.
  • Complete calculations using engineering formulas and skills, utilizing computers to solve problems.
  • Prepare specifications for materials through research and manufacturing catalogs to specify materials, installation, inspection, and payment of items specific to a project.
  • Work to complete design details and plan sets.
  • Perform research and write objective summary reports used in the completion of project work or inspection.
  • Assist in the preparation of engineering and construction cost estimates.
  • Complete field observation, inspection, and data collection duties as directed by senior engineering staff.
  • Communicate with client staff and internal design team as directed by senior engineering staff.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's or master's degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related degree.
  • 2 to 10 years of experience in land development civil engineering, including residential neighborhood design, commercial, mixed-use, and public land development.
  • EIT preferred.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D is a must.
