About the position

Timmons Group is seeking a Civil Project Engineer II/III specializing in Roadway Design to join our Transportation Design Group in Charlottesville, VA. This position is integral to our Infrastructure Engineering division and involves a variety of responsibilities that contribute to the successful completion of transportation projects. The ideal candidate will be involved in the design of various project components using advanced office software and modeling tools, particularly AutoDesk Civil 3D technology. In this role, you will be expected to complete calculations using engineering formulas and leverage computer software to solve complex engineering problems. You will also prepare specifications for materials by conducting thorough research and utilizing manufacturing catalogs to ensure that all materials meet project requirements for installation, inspection, and payment. Your attention to detail will be crucial as you work to finalize design details and create comprehensive plan sets. Additionally, you will perform research and write objective summary reports that are essential for project completion and inspection processes. Assisting in the preparation of engineering and construction cost estimates will also be part of your responsibilities. Field observation, inspection, and data collection duties will be assigned as directed by senior engineering staff, and effective communication with client staff and the internal design team will be necessary to ensure project alignment and success.

Responsibilities

  • Design portions of a project using relevant office software, modeling, and AutoDesk Civil 3D technology.
  • Complete calculations using engineering formulas and skills and/or utilize computers to solve problems.
  • Prepare specifications for materials through research and manufacturing catalogs to specify materials, installation, inspection, and payment of items specific to a project.
  • Work to complete design details and plan sets.
  • Perform research and write objective summary reports used in the completion of project work or inspection.
  • Assist in the preparation of engineering and construction cost estimates.
  • Complete field observation, inspection, and data collection duties as directed by senior engineering staff.
  • Communicate with client staff and internal design team as directed by senior engineering staff.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's or master's degree in civil engineering or a closely related field.
  • At least two years of experience in transportation civil engineering related to roadway design.
  • Proficiency in Bentley OpenRoads Designer is essential.
  • Proficiency in AutoDesk Civil 3D is a plus.
  • VDOT experience is preferred.
  • EIT (Engineer in Training) certification is preferred.
