About the position

Timmons Group is seeking a Civil Project Engineer II/III - Roadway Design candidate for our Transportation Design Group located in our Richmond, VA office. This position is integral to our Infrastructure Engineering division, focusing on the design and improvement of roadway systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for laying out horizontal alignments and vertical profiles for road widening projects, ensuring that all designs meet the necessary engineering standards and regulations. In this role, you will model and design roadway improvement projects using advanced software tools such as AutoDesk Civil 3D and Bentley OpenRoads Designer. You will also utilize 3D visualization software to create presentations for clients and public communication, which is essential for conveying project details effectively. Additionally, you will develop plan sheets and compile comprehensive project packages for submission, ensuring that all documentation is accurate and complete. Your responsibilities will also include completing roadway and drainage calculations using specialized software and reference materials, assisting in the preparation of engineering and construction cost estimates, and conducting research to download available GIS open-source data. Field observations and data collection will be part of your duties, providing valuable insights for office use and project discussions. Continuous learning is encouraged, as you will be expected to learn new technologies to enhance your skill set and contribute to the group's knowledge base. Participation in project meetings with clients and contractors will also be a key aspect of this role, facilitating effective communication and collaboration throughout the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Lay out horizontal alignments and vertical profiles for road widening projects

Requirements

  • A bachelor's or master's degree in civil engineering or closely related field
  • At least two years of experience in transportation civil engineering related to roadway design
  • Bentley OpenRoads Designer proficiency preferred
  • AutoDesk Civil 3D proficiency preferred
  • VDOT experience preferred
  • EIT preferred
