About the position

Timmons Group is seeking a Civil Project Engineer II/III specializing in Traffic Analysis and Planning to join our Traffic Group in Columbia, SC. This position is integral to our Infrastructure Engineering division, where the successful candidate will engage in various aspects of civil engineering projects, particularly focusing on traffic-related analyses and planning. The role requires a blend of technical skills, creativity, and collaboration with both clients and internal teams to ensure project success. In this position, the Civil Project Engineer will be responsible for designing portions of projects using relevant office software, including modeling and CAD technology. The engineer will complete calculations using engineering formulas and skills, utilizing computers to solve complex problems. Attention to detail is crucial as the engineer will work to finalize design details and plan sets, ensuring accuracy and compliance with engineering standards. Additionally, the role involves performing research and writing objective summary reports that contribute to the completion of project work. The engineer will assist in preparing engineering and construction cost estimates, providing valuable insights into project budgeting and resource allocation. Field observation, inspection, and data collection duties will also be part of the responsibilities, as directed by senior engineering staff. Effective communication with client staff and the internal design team is essential, ensuring that all stakeholders are aligned throughout the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Design portions of a project using relevant office software, modeling and CAD technology
  • Complete calculations using engineering formulas and skills and/or utilizes computers in order to solve problems
  • Work to complete design details and plan sets
  • Perform research and write objective summary reports which are used in the completion of the project work
  • Assist in the preparation of engineering and construction cost estimates
  • Complete field observation, inspection and data collection duties as directed by senior engineering staff
  • Communicate with client staff and internal design team as directed by senior engineering staff

Requirements

  • A bachelor's or master's degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field
  • Between one and eight years of experience in Transportation / Traffic Engineering and site plan production
  • MicroStation proficiency is essential

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of Traffic Analyses, Traffic Safety, Traffic Forecasting, Traffic Signal Design, ITS Design, Signing Design, Traffic Management Plan Design, and/or Traffic Signal Timing
  • DOT experience preferred
  • EIT preferred
