About the position

Timmons Group is seeking a Civil Project Engineer II/III specializing in Traffic Analysis and Planning to join our Traffic Analysis and Planning Group located in Richmond, VA. This position is crucial for the successful execution of various traffic-related projects, where the candidate will be responsible for conducting comprehensive operational analyses, corridor studies, and traffic studies. The role involves innovative intersection implementation, traffic calming measures, and safety analysis to enhance transportation systems and ensure public safety. The successful candidate will engage in bicycle, pedestrian, and multi-modal feasibility studies, including analysis, design, and implementation. This will require a strong foundation in engineering principles, as the candidate will be expected to complete calculations using engineering formulas and leverage computer software to solve complex problems. Additionally, the role entails performing thorough research and writing objective summary reports that contribute to the overall project work. Collaboration is key in this position, as the candidate will assist in preparing engineering planning schedules and cost estimates while also conducting field observations, inspections, and data collection duties. Effective communication with client staff and the internal design team is essential, as well as the ability to convey results and recommendations to the general public. Responsibilities

  • Complete operational analysis, corridor studies, traffic studies, innovative intersection implementation, traffic calming, and safety analysis.
  • Conduct bicycle/pedestrian/multi-modal feasibility, analysis, design, and implementation.
  • Perform calculations using engineering formulas and utilize computers to solve problems.
  • Conduct research and write objective summary reports for project completion.
  • Assist in the preparation of engineering planning schedules and cost estimates.
  • Complete field observation, inspection, and data collection duties.
  • Communicate with client staff and internal design team.
  • Present results and recommendations to the general public.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's or master's degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Between two and six years of experience in Transportation / Traffic Engineering and Planning.
  • Proficiency in Synchro/SIDRA/HCS software.
  • Knowledge of Traffic Analyses, Planning Studies, Traffic Safety, Traffic Forecasting, Traffic Signal Design, ITS Design, and/or Traffic Signal Timing.
  • Experience with bicycle/pedestrian/multi-modal projects.
  • Basic knowledge of CAD and/or GIS.
  • Experience working with DOT and/or localities.
  • Possession of PE/EIT certification.
