About the position

Timmons Group is currently seeking an experienced Project Engineer III to join our Land Development group located in our Prince George, VA office. This position is crucial for the successful execution of land development projects, where the engineer will be responsible for various aspects of project design and implementation. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in civil engineering, particularly in land development, and will be expected to utilize relevant office software, modeling, and Civil 3D technology to design portions of projects effectively. The Project Engineer III will be tasked with completing calculations using engineering formulas and skills, as well as utilizing computers to solve complex problems that arise during the design process. A significant part of the role involves preparing specifications and materials by conducting thorough research and utilizing manufacturing catalogs to specify materials, installation, inspection, and payment items specific to each project. The engineer will work diligently to complete design details and plan sets, ensuring that all aspects of the project are meticulously documented and executed. In addition to design responsibilities, the Project Engineer III will perform research and write objective summary reports that are essential for the completion of project work or inspections. The role also includes assisting in the preparation of engineering and construction cost estimates, which are critical for project budgeting and financial planning. Field observation, inspection, and data collection duties will be conducted as directed by senior engineering staff, providing valuable insights into the practical aspects of the projects. Effective communication is key in this role, as the engineer will need to liaise with client staff and the internal design team as directed by senior engineering staff. This collaborative approach ensures that all project stakeholders are aligned and that the project progresses smoothly from conception to completion.

Responsibilities

  • Design portions of a project using relevant office software, modeling, and Civil 3D technology.
  • Complete calculations using engineering formulas and skills and/or utilize computers to solve problems.
  • Prepare specifications and materials through research and manufacturing catalogs to specify materials, installation, inspection, and payment of items specific to a project.
  • Work to complete design details and plan sets.
  • Perform research and write objective summary reports used in the completion of project work or inspection.
  • Assist in the preparation of engineering and construction cost estimates.
  • Complete field observation, inspection, and data collection duties as directed by senior engineering staff.
  • Communicate with client staff and internal design team as directed by senior engineering staff.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's or master's degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related degree.
  • 4+ years of experience in Land Development civil engineering, including residential neighborhood design as well as commercial and mixed-use development.
  • EIT preferred.
  • Working knowledge of CADD and/or Civil 3D software (Civil 3D preferred).
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship now and in the future.
