About the position

Timmons Group is seeking a Civil Project Engineer III - Roadway Design candidate for our Transportation Design Group. This position is based in our Richmond, VA office and is eligible for Remote. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in the design and implementation of roadway improvement projects, ensuring that all designs meet the necessary standards and regulations. The role involves a combination of technical engineering skills, project management, and client interaction, making it essential for the candidate to be well-versed in both the technical and communicative aspects of civil engineering. The primary responsibilities include laying out horizontal alignments and vertical profiles for road widening projects, modeling and designing roadway improvement projects using AutoDesk Civil 3D and/or Bentley OpenRoads Designer, and utilizing 3D visualization software for client and public communication presentations. The candidate will also be responsible for developing plan sheets and compiling project packages for submission, completing roadway and drainage calculations utilizing software and reference material, and assisting in the preparation of engineering and construction cost estimates. Additionally, the candidate will be expected to research and download available GIS open-source data, complete field observations and data collection for office use and project discussion, and learn new technology to advance their skill set and group knowledge. Participation in project meetings with clients and contractors is also a key aspect of this role, ensuring that all stakeholders are aligned and informed throughout the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Lay out horizontal alignments and vertical profiles for road widening projects

Requirements

  • A bachelor's or master's degree in civil engineering or closely related field
  • At least 4 years of experience in transportation civil engineering related to roadway design
  • Proficiency in Bentley OpenRoads Designer preferred
  • Proficiency in AutoDesk Civil 3D preferred
  • VDOT experience preferred
  • EIT preferred
