About the position

Timmons Group is seeking a Civil Project Engineer III - Structure & Bridge Design candidate for our Structures & Bridge Design Group located in our Richmond, VA office. This position is integral to our Infrastructure Engineering division, where the successful candidate will engage in a variety of projects that involve the design and rehabilitation of bridges and other structures. The role requires a blend of technical expertise and project management skills, as the engineer will be responsible for both the design aspects and the oversight of project execution. The Civil Project Engineer III will perform routine and complex designs for bridges, buildings, renewable energy structures, and ancillary structures. This includes conducting thorough bridge load ratings and developing rehabilitation designs for existing structures. The candidate will also assist in the development of project scopes, schedules, and budgets, ensuring that all projects are delivered on time and within financial constraints. Additionally, the engineer will play a key role in marketing efforts and proposal development, contributing to the growth and visibility of the Structures & Bridge Design Group. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on diverse projects that impact infrastructure development and sustainability. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in civil or structural engineering principles, along with practical experience in the field. Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and complex bridge, building, renewable energy, and ancillary structure designs
  • Perform bridge and building rehabilitation designs
  • Conduct bridge load ratings
  • Assist with the development of scope, schedule and budgets for projects
  • Assist with the management of projects and tasks
  • Assist with marketing and proposal development

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering required, Master's degree preferred
  • 4+ years of structure and/or bridge design experience required
  • PE License is a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications, AASHTO Manual for Bridge Evaluation and NCDOT standards
  • Proficiency in structural design software packages
  • Proficiency in the use of Microstation and/or AutoCAD for plan development
  • NBIS bridge inspection certification is a plus
