About the position

Bolton & Menk is seeking a dedicated and skilled Project Engineer/Manager specializing in Aviation to join our team in the Des Moines region. This role is pivotal in leading and managing the design and construction management of various airport projects, including the extension and reconstruction of runways, taxiways, and aprons, as well as the development of fuel systems and vertical infrastructure such as hangars and AD buildings. The successful candidate will also oversee the implementation of NAVAIDS and other essential airport facilities. This position is ideal for a licensed professional engineer or an individual who can obtain licensure within one year, eager to advance their career in aviation engineering. In this role, you will be responsible for managing project budgets and schedules, ensuring that all aspects of the projects are executed efficiently and effectively. You will serve as a primary contact for airport boards and clients, fostering strong relationships and ensuring client satisfaction. Your responsibilities will also include reviewing and preparing preliminary reports and feasibility studies, developing and coordinating final designs, and providing technical advice on design and construction matters. You will lead a team of engineers and technicians, guiding them in their project assignments and ensuring high-quality outcomes. The ideal candidate will possess a strong self-motivation and the ability to coordinate with staff and subconsultants across various offices. You will have the opportunity to work closely with the Aviation Group Manager and the Aviation Business Development Manager to develop and implement marketing strategies aimed at attracting future clients. Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the design and construction management for airport projects.
  • Serve as a client contact to airport boards/commissions and airport clients as assigned.
  • Review and/or prepare preliminary reports and feasibility studies.
  • Develop, coordinate and review the final design and preparation of plans and specifications.
  • Provide technical advice regarding design, construction or modification and repairs to clients, contractors and other staff members.
  • Manage planning, scheduling and performance of multiple engineering projects and personnel, both design and construction.
  • Read and interpret engineering plans, specifications and reports.
  • Perform effective technical writing and correspondence.
  • Conduct business development activities including client needs assessment, research, and proposals.
  • Coordinate construction administration and monitor documentation requirements with field staff.
  • Apply broad understanding of civil engineering and other fields to reach innovative and interdependent solutions.
  • Assist with the training and development of professional and technical staff.
  • Develop relationships with regulatory agencies.
  • Travel periodically to work sites and other project-related locations.

Requirements

  • B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Iowa.
  • A minimum of four (4) years of progressive experience in the civil engineering field, preferably with aviation engineering project experience.
  • Knowledge of FAA Advisory Circulars.
  • Experience in plan development and construction contract administration.
  • Proven ability to lead the design and preparation of construction documents for projects.
  • Project delivery experience working directly with airport clients.
