About the position

The Project Engineer will play a crucial role in the design and execution of municipal projects, working closely with a team of professionals to deliver high-quality engineering solutions. In this role, you will be responsible for performing detailed design computations and utilizing CAD software for preliminary layout, modeling, and design. You will also research and prepare preliminary reports and feasibility studies, presenting your findings to stakeholders. Your expertise will be essential in assisting with project design, reviewing plans, specifications, cost estimates, and quantity take-offs. Additionally, you will plan and organize construction observation, ensuring that projects are administered effectively. As a Project Engineer, you will direct the work of engineers-in-training and technicians, fostering their professional development. You will support business development activities, including responding to RFPs, making presentations, and engaging with the community and regulatory agencies. Your role will also involve mentoring junior staff and maintaining your skills through continuing education to meet state licensure requirements. You will perform detailed construction observation and project documentation as needed, ensuring that all aspects of the project are executed to the highest standards.

Responsibilities

  • Performs detailed design computations.
  • Performs CAD preliminary layout, modeling and design.
  • Researches and prepares preliminary reports and feasibility studies and may present preliminary reports and feasibility studies.
  • Assists with project design and reviews project design and preparation of plans, specifications, cost estimates, and quantity take-offs.
  • Plans and organizes construction observation and performs administration of projects.
  • Plans and organizes project assignments while directing the work of other engineers-in-training and technicians.
  • Supports business development activities including RFP's, presentations and community engagement activities while developing relationships with regulatory agencies.
  • Assists with mentoring and developing professional and technical staff.
  • Maintains and enhances skills through continuing education to meet or exceed state licensure requirements.
  • Performs detailed construction observation and project documentation as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent program from an accredited college with four years of progressive design and complex construction experience.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.).
  • Effective interpersonal written & verbal communication skills.
  • Strong time management, organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced math skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Developing supervisory and team leadership skills.
  • Thorough knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite (MS Excel, MS Word, PowerPoint).
  • Working knowledge and skills in CAD and design software (i.e. AutoCAD Civil3D, Microstation).
  • Working knowledge of specialized design software (i.e. hydrocad, watercad, stormcad, sewercad, xpswmm).
  • Possess a valid driver's license as travel to various facilities and job sites may be required.
