About the position

Crafton Tull is seeking a Civil Project Engineer P.E. to join our team in Hot Springs, Arkansas. As a 100% employee-owned planning, design, and surveying firm, we are dedicated to improving communities through our engineering projects. This position offers a unique opportunity to take ownership of your work and contribute to the success of our firm. The Civil Project Engineer will be responsible for planning, designing, and directing engineering projects, primarily in commercial and industrial sectors, both locally and nationally. In this role, you will analyze various reports, maps, drawings, and other data to inform your project designs. You will calculate costs, assess project feasibility, and prepare detailed cost estimates. Utilizing computer-assisted engineering and design software, you will create comprehensive engineering documents. Regular meetings with clients will be essential to coordinate project changes, address additional requirements, and resolve any issues that arise. You will also work closely with government officials to secure necessary approvals and permits for your projects. As a Civil Project Engineer, you will track project progress and prepare reports in accordance with regulations and client needs. Staying updated on changing techniques, materials, and regulations is crucial, and you will be expected to attend seminars and briefings to enhance your knowledge. If you take on the project manager role, you will supervise the design work of engineers and technicians supporting your projects, ensuring adherence to the CTA Project Management Plan. We are looking for a candidate who demonstrates strong business acumen, project management skills, technical expertise, and the ability to foster teamwork. Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential, as is personal credibility in dealing with clients and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, tests, and aerial photographs on soil composition, terrain, hydrological characteristics, and other topographic and geologic data to plan and design projects.
  • Calculate costs, determine feasibility of projects based on analysis of collected data, and prepare detailed cost estimates.
  • Use computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to create engineering and design documents.
  • Prepare and modify reports, specifications, plans, cost estimates, construction schedules, environmental impact studies, legal documentation, easements, and designs for projects.
  • Meet with clients periodically to coordinate changes, inform them of additional requirements, receive input, answer questions, and resolve issues.
  • Coordinate with government officials to obtain required approvals and permits for assigned projects.
  • Coordinate project activity with appropriate officials, support staff, subcontractors, labs, and other entities.
  • Track project progress and prepare reports of activity in accordance with regulations, company policy, and client needs.
  • Research regulations, products, and design techniques to provide answers to client needs.
  • Keep abreast of changing techniques, materials, codes, regulations, and software through attendance at seminars, briefings, and other forums.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (BS) from an accredited four-year college or university.
  • Five to ten years of related experience/training.
  • Must be certified as a Professional Engineer (PE).
  • Must be licensed PE in Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, or Kansas and be able to obtain a license in other states as needed.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to write speeches and publication articles that conform to prescribed style and format.
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as algebraic functions and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Knowledge of Database, AutoCAD, Civil3D, Revit, Risa, or STAAD.
