In this role, your day-to-day responsibilities will include working with the project team to create an action plan for the development and completion of assigned Sub-Surface Utility Engineering projects, ensuring they remain within budget and schedule. You will interact directly with field and office staff, research as-built record drawings from utilities for project designs, and balance multiple tasks across various projects. Collaboration with Project Managers to identify and troubleshoot problems is essential, as is coordination with other SUE departments when necessary. You will participate in site visits, agency meetings, and municipal meetings as needed, and the role requires sitting and/or standing for extended periods, mobility within the office, and repeated motions such as typing, reaching, bending, lifting, and carrying.

Responsibilities

  • Create an action plan for the development and project completion of assigned Sub-Surface Utility Engineering projects.
  • Interact and work directly with field and office staff.
  • Research as-built record drawings from utilities for project designs.
  • Balance multiple tasks on multiple projects.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers to identify and troubleshoot problems.
  • Coordinate with other SUE departments when necessary.
  • Participate in site visits, agency meetings, and municipal meetings as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering.
  • Professional Engineer registration in Texas or the ability to acquire registration quickly through reciprocity.
  • TxDOT Pre-Certification in 18.2.1 Subsurface Utility Engineering or the ability to acquire precertification quickly is required.
  • 3-5 years' professional engineering experience required, with experience in Subsurface Engineering and TxDOT-related projects preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook required.
  • Familiarity with design software such as AutoCAD Civil3D and Microstation ORD is preferred.
  • Ability to balance multiple work assignments on multiple projects is required.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team is required.
  • Process-oriented thinking with strong organizational and technical skills is required.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to understand directives are required.
  • Ability to complete work consistently with moderate flexibility to accommodate varying demands from Project Managers is required.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to pass a 3-year DMV background check and criminal record check are required.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening.
