About the position

Thomas & Hutton is seeking a motivated and driven Civil Project Engineer to join our team in Smyrna, TN. Our expertise includes Civil, Environmental, Structural, and Marine Engineering, Land Surveying, Land Planning, Landscape Architecture, Geographic Information Systems, and Construction Administration. In this role, the Civil Project Engineer will be responsible for permitting and performing design work and engineering calculations on civil site development projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of civil site design and development, particularly in water, sewer, and storm drainage infrastructure design projects. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential, as regular client interaction is a key component of this position. Candidates should possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering and have a Professional Engineer registration or the ability to obtain registration within six months of hire. A minimum of 5 years of experience in Civil Engineering Design is required, along with strong skills in AutoCAD and Civil 3D software applications. The successful candidate will demonstrate progressive experience in planning, design, and permitting of civil site design, drainage improvement, and small transportation projects. The work schedule is from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM Monday through Thursday, and 7:30 AM to 11:30 AM on Friday, with additional hours as needed to meet project deadlines. Responsibilities

  • Perform permitting and design work for civil site development projects.
  • Conduct engineering calculations related to civil engineering design.
  • Interact regularly with clients to ensure project requirements are met.
  • Prepare technical specifications and bid documents for projects.
  • Develop grading and drainage plans and reports based on project needs.
  • Conduct construction administration, including site visits and coordination with clients and contractors.
  • Utilize AutoCAD and Civil 3D software for design tasks.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously while prioritizing workflow effectively.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer registration or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
  • 5+ years of experience in Civil Engineering Design.
  • Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD and Civil 3D software applications.
  • Experience in planning, design, and permitting of civil site design and drainage improvement projects.
  • Ability to write technical specifications and bid documents.
  • Strong understanding of stormwater hydraulics and hydrology.
  • Proven ability to perform construction administration tasks.
