About the position

Mott MacDonald is seeking a dynamic and experienced Civil Project Engineer to join their Orleans, LA office. The role involves leading the design of civil engineering projects, primarily in transportation and water/wastewater sectors, with a focus on delivering sustainable outcomes for clients and communities. The position offers an opportunity to work within a collaborative team of engineers and specialists, contributing to various civil engineering projects while developing organizational and project management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and lead technical reports, specifications, design and contract documents, quantity take-offs, estimates, and calculations.
  • Develop geometric design plans, alignments, profiles, cross sections, paving and striping layouts, and traffic control plans using design manuals and standards.
  • Perform hydrology and hydraulic drainage calculations.
  • Evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria, making adaptations and modifications as necessary.
  • Conduct construction oversight through site inspections, investigations, and monitoring contractor compliance.
  • Support project management and project control tasks.
  • Attend and lead project, client, and team meetings.
  • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines as needed.
  • Mentor junior staff and participate in the 'Early Careers Professional' Network.
  • Improve organizational skills and develop towards a project manager.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's or master's degree in civil engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience performing civil engineering design.
  • Active Louisiana (PE) Professional Engineering license or ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • Previous experience in geometric roadway design.
  • Previous design experience in hydraulic drainage modeling.
  • Understanding of software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, and Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Project).
  • Previous experience working with LaDOTD specifications.
  • Previous construction administration experience.
  • Methodical approach to problem-solving to undertake tasks efficiently and independently.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills for liaising with clients and team members.
  • Strong written communication skills and attention to detail, with the ability to produce accurate technical drawings.
