About the position

The Civil Project Engineer position at PG&E involves leading the engineering and design of complex civil projects related to substations. This journey-level role requires independent judgment and mastery of engineering principles, with responsibilities including project management, technical studies, and collaboration with various stakeholders to ensure project success. The position is hybrid, allowing for remote work and on-site presence as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with or conducts project walkdowns and collaborates with project teams to establish scope, schedule, and cost commitments.
  • Gathers technical information from field data and project teams.
  • Prepares cost estimates for projects.
  • Investigates resources required to complete engineering and project-related tasks.
  • Establishes engineering schedules and prepares project forecasts, tracking progress and providing updates as needed.
  • Provides guidance to design and contractor team members, reviewing design and technical documents to ensure compliance with criteria and job scope.
  • Approves revisions to existing drawings for routine projects.
  • Procures long-lead time materials for assigned projects.
  • Under direction, reviews and approves project material procurement lists, vendor drawings, equipment specification updates, and engineering material requests.
  • Participates in periodic design review meetings and coordinates project activities with other disciplines for routine projects.
  • Provides construction support and evaluates field construction problems, making recommendations for resolution.
  • Performs engineering analyses, studies, and develops conceptual designs, presenting findings to internal organizations and external vendors.
  • Prepares written technical documents such as design criteria, specifications, and reports.
  • Develops, evaluates, and recommends alternative project proposals.
  • Solicits, prepares, and evaluates contracts and proposals from engineering consultants, reviewing for technical compliance.
  • Interprets and applies applicable codes and regulations, educating others as necessary.
  • Participates in the development of effective restoration plans and assists in root cause analysis.
  • Approves reports and stamps calculations, new drawings, and revisions for projects.
  • Responds promptly to facility failures in emergencies and represents PG&E to government bodies as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited curriculum in the US or equivalent from outside the US.
  • Current and active California PE license.
  • 3 years of experience in civil or structural engineering and design.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Familiarity with ASCE 7, ACI 318, AISC 360, and California Building Code.
  • Familiarity with SAP2000 or similar structural analysis program.
