About the position

The Civil Roadway Engineer - Phase I Project Manager at TranSystems Corporation is responsible for leading and managing Phase I projects related to roadway and highway design. This role involves overseeing environmental studies, geometric design, traffic studies, and public involvement, while collaborating with various teams to ensure project success. The position requires a strong background in NEPA processes and the ability to manage complex engineering tasks in a dynamic work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and assist roadway/highway Project Manager on Phase I projects.
  • Manage personnel and projects involving environmental studies and analysis, geometric design, and traffic signal design.
  • Develop scope of work, project budgets, and project schedules after winning work.
  • Guide projects through the NEPA process and make presentations to clients and the public.
  • Provide direction and guidance to Project Engineers and Staff Engineers.
  • Analyze information and data to perform routine design tasks and make independent engineering decisions.
  • Ensure accuracy of engineering design and plans, and maintain quality presentation and thoroughness.
  • Review design options and document findings from the design team.
  • Manage workload and changes in project schedule or scope.

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years of related, in-field experience, including work with Illinois Tollway, Illinois DOT, and Federally funded projects.
  • Experience with Special Environmental Studies and Complex Categorical Exclusions.
  • Knowledge of NEPA and its requirements.
  • Strong technical writing skills and experience in public outreach.
  • Familiarity with IDOT's Context Sensitive Solutions.
  • Illinois PE license and Illinois Driver's License required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Environmental Assessment and Environmental Impact Study.
  • Completion of NHI Course 'NEPA and Transportation Decision Making Process' within the first year of employment.
