About the position

The Civil Structural Assistant Manager at Optimized Process Designs (OPD) is responsible for leading and mentoring a team of civil structural engineers while collaborating with project managers to develop effective project design strategies. This role focuses on optimizing designer hours, managing workloads, and ensuring the successful execution of civil and structural engineering projects within the natural gas and petrochemical industries.

Responsibilities

  • Manage, mentor, develop, and coach lead civil structural engineers to foster a high-performing engineering team.
  • Collaborate with the Civil/Structural Design manager to optimize designer hours and allocations to ensure workload is effectively managed.
  • Work closely with Project Managers and other engineering disciplines to develop and execute effective project design strategies.
  • Oversee the preparation of comprehensive scopes of work, technical specifications, and necessary drawings for bid packages.
  • Resolve construction and engineering design issues through effective interaction with suppliers and contractors.
  • Develop strategies to optimize the civil/structural engineering workflow, planning effectiveness, and estimation.
  • Provide necessary support during projects and field construction, including troubleshooting and evaluating existing civil/structural systems.
  • Develop the Civil/Structural and project scopes and estimates, execute all aspects of civil/structural design, and support project construction.
  • Participate in final design coordination meetings and approve necessary modifications.
  • Mentor engineers on concrete and structural steel design.
  • Participate in proposal preparation as needed.

Requirements

  • BS in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • Proven experience in gas treatment and/or natural gas structural design
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.)

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience as a lead engineer
  • Direct experience interfacing with clients
