About the position

This engineering position at Vistra involves working independently to provide innovative solutions for complex engineering problems, particularly in the nuclear power sector. The role requires establishing effective working relationships, performing safety assessments, and developing long-term improvement plans for plant assets. The incumbent will also lead project initiatives and ensure compliance with safety policies while preparing reports and recommendations for complex issues.

Responsibilities

  • Provide innovative engineering solutions for difficult problems.
  • Assess and resolve potential conditions adverse to quality.
  • Perform tasks in accordance with established expectations for nuclear safety and personnel safety.
  • Conduct regular walkdowns of systems to gather information for design and analysis activities.
  • Develop long-range improvement plans for key plant assets.
  • Identify and perform tasks as required to meet objectives.
  • Lead interpretation and analysis of complex issues.
  • Coordinate assigned projects, studies, and initiatives through completion.
  • Comply with safety policy and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Prepare and present reports including recommendations to resolve complex issues.
  • Participate in and occasionally lead special projects and committees.
  • Lead complex problem-solving efforts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Civil/Structural preferred).
  • Ideally 6 years of related job experience.
  • Extensive knowledge in Civil/Structural design engineering.
  • Experience in building and structures inspection, dam inspection, heavy load evaluations, and rigging evaluations.
  • Preferred experience with analysis of support structures and seismic qualification of equipment.
  • PE Licensure is preferred.
  • Physically able to perform walkdowns requiring use of stairs and ladders.
  • Qualified to assess the Building and Structures System for the plant.
  • Qualified to prepare design changes.
  • Qualified to prepare 10CFR50.59 screens.
  • Proficient computer skills in standard Windows programs (Excel, Word, etc).
  • Teamwork and collaboration skills across organizational boundaries.
  • Able to communicate complex issues effectively through written and verbal communication.
  • Able to influence by establishing effective working relationships across organizational boundaries.
  • In-depth understanding of power plant equipment and systems.
  • Able to evaluate technical alternatives in light of their economic contribution to the business.
  • Able to apply systematic problem-solving processes to address complex issues.
