About the position

MSTS is seeking a Civil/Structural Engineer I to join its On-Site Design Engineering Team at the Nevada National Security Site. The role involves generating design criteria documents, participating in project walk-downs, and ensuring compliance with relevant laws and MSTS policies. The engineer will work collaboratively with various engineering disciplines and contribute to the development of technical proposals and strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Participate on walk-downs and generate sketches for conceptual designs.
  • Evaluate existing systems and generate/review functional requirement documents.
  • Prepare and check Civil/Structural calculations with and without software.
  • Coordinate with multiple engineering disciplines, facility managers, project managers, and project engineers.
  • Ensure processes and deliverables comply with laws, codes, orders, and MSTS policies and procedures.
  • Create and update standard structural installation details.
  • Determine code applicability for both nuclear and non-nuclear applications.
  • Specify and evaluate work statements for subcontracts and review vendor bids and submittals.
  • Contribute to strategies, reports, and technical proposals.
  • Build team relationships with technical staff and company organizations.
  • Promptly correct or report any hazard or potential hazard to supervision.
  • Understand the principles associated with the MSTS safety concept.
  • Perform other duties assigned by Management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering program accredited by ABET for Civil, Mechanical, and Electrical engineering degrees, or a Calculus-based STEM bachelor's degree, or for Architects, Certification from NCARB, or a Professional Engineer license.
  • Skill building experience demonstrating deeper technical specialization or additional cross-disciplinary knowledge.
  • Ability to interpret codes and standards applicable to the position.
  • EIT working towards professional engineer license.
  • Knowledge of industry standard software and computer-aided drafting applications.
