About the position

MSTS is seeking a Civil/Structural Engineer I to join its On-Site Design Engineering Team at the Nevada National Security Site. This role involves generating design criteria documents to support various projects, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and MSTS policies, and collaborating with multiple engineering disciplines. The engineer will participate in design evaluations, prepare calculations, and contribute to project execution while maintaining a focus on safety and quality.

Responsibilities

  • Participate on walk-downs, generate sketches, help develop conceptual designs, evaluate existing systems, and generate and/or review functional requirement documents.
  • Prepare and check Civil/Structural calculations with and without the use of software.
  • Coordinate with multiple engineering disciplines, facility managers, project managers, and project engineers.
  • Coordinate execution of assigned projects.
  • Ensure processes and deliverables comply with laws, codes, orders, and MSTS policies and procedures.
  • Create and update standard structural installation details.
  • Make determination of code applicability for both nuclear and non-nuclear applications.
  • Specify and evaluate work statements for subcontracts and review/evaluate vendor bids and submittals.
  • Contribute to strategies, reports, and technical proposals.
  • Build team relationships with technical staff and company organizations.
  • Promptly correct or report any hazard or potential hazard to supervision.
  • Understand the principles associated with the MSTS safety concept.
  • Perform other duties assigned by Management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) required for Civil, Mechanical and Electrical engineering degrees; or Calculus-based STEM bachelor's degree in engineering; or for Architects, Certification from the National Council or Architectural Registration Board (NCARB); or Professional Engineer license.
  • Skill building experience must demonstrate either deeper technical specialization or additional cross-disciplinary knowledge. Graduate research experience may be recognized.
  • Ability to interpret codes and standards applicable to the position.
  • EIT working towards professional engineer license.
  • Execute work in a disciplined manner to demonstrate compliance with laws, codes, orders, and MSTS policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of industry standard software and computer-aided drafting applications is required.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
