About the position

Array Technologies is seeking a skilled Civil Structural Engineer III - Design Tools to join their Applications Engineering team. This role focuses on developing engineering tools to analyze and optimize solar mounting systems, requiring collaboration with various teams and engineering contractors to meet project goals efficiently. The engineer will work in both technical lead and project management capacities, reporting to the Sr Principal Engineer - Civil Structural.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain advanced Excel tools and macros for solar mounting system design and analysis.
  • Utilize programming languages such as VBA, Python, or MATLAB to enhance Excel tools and in-house software platforms.
  • Apply international building codes and engineering principles to analyze and design tracker structures and components.
  • Design, analyze, and optimize solar mounting systems for assigned projects.
  • Develop and review project specifications, calculations, and drawings.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to produce automated engineering report and drawing templates.
  • Support structured software testing and oversee functional testing and UAT conducted by others.
  • Participate in project meetings, providing technical input and estimating timelines and levels of effort.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of industry standards, codes, and regulations related to solar mounting systems.
  • Identify and propose innovative solutions to engineering challenges related to design process automation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, structural engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in civil and structural engineering design and analysis.
  • Proficient in Excel macros and programming languages such as VBA, Python, or MATLAB, with a preference for Python.
  • Working knowledge of National building code standards like ASCE, AISC, and IBC.
  • Working knowledge of 2D CAD tools.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Familiarity with industry standards, codes, and regulations related to solar mounting systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of solar energy and photovoltaic systems is a plus.
  • FE license and working towards Professional Engineer (PE) license is a plus.
