About the position

As a Civil/Structural Engineer at SpaceX, you will be part of the Starship Launch Engineering team, responsible for designing, building, and activating infrastructure to support orbital launch capabilities for the Starship rocket. This role involves collaboration with elite engineers across various disciplines and requires a strong focus on structural engineering projects.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and issue drawings, design documentation, and reports for aerospace, industrial, and commercial structural engineering projects.
  • Perform all calculations necessary for steel and reinforced concrete design.
  • Drive coordination and design necessary to obtain local, state, and federal permits related to building permits.
  • Manage the structural aspects of construction projects in the field, including quality control, conflict resolution, and coordination of a multi-discipline contractor team.
  • Interact with contractors, fabricators, owners, and internal clients to develop project requirements, schedule, and cost estimates prior to project implementation.
  • Own budget and schedule for a scope of work within a multi-disciplinary team, including all facets of engineering, permitting, procurement, and construction.
  • Resolve design and construction conflicts in the field in real time.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in structural engineering, civil engineering, or other engineering discipline.
  • 1+ years of professional experience as an engineer with a focus in design or build of structural infrastructure.

Nice-to-haves

  • Professional Engineering (PE) license.
  • Knowledge of American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) steel manual, American Concrete Institute (ACI) code 318, American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) 7, and International Building Code (IBC).
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, or similar design software.
  • Experience with SAP 2000, STAAD Pro, RISA-3D, Etabs, or similar analysis software.
  • Knowledge of processes of governing permitting agencies such as building departments and/or environmental agencies.
  • Understanding of other disciplines such as mechanical, electrical, piping, geotechnical, and surveying.
  • Experience with project management of major construction projects including estimating, cost control, schedule, and contractor management.
  • Experience with at least three of the following project delivery phases: conceptual layout and high level trade studies, detailed engineering design and development, request for proposals/quotes, contract issue, supervision of construction to completion, work punch lists and certificate of occupancy (CO) with building official.
  • Sound communication skills.
