GPI is seeking a civil/structural engineer to join our growing Western NY operation in the Buffalo, NY office. As a civil/structural engineer at GPI, you will be involved in a variety of projects that require a strong foundation in engineering principles and practices. Your role will include developing foundation designs for equipment and buildings, including piles and spread footers, as well as designing steel-reinforced concrete, masonry, and wood structures. You will also be responsible for the design and modification of various structural components such as transformers, oil containment systems, firewalls, bus supports, and more. Your expertise in stormwater management facilities, site grading plans, and roadway design will be essential in delivering high-quality engineering solutions. In this position, you will prepare and review civil/structural calculations, drawings, and construction specifications, while also developing engineering construction cost estimates. Collaboration with interdisciplinary design teams will be a key aspect of your work, ensuring that all project components are aligned and executed effectively. Responsibilities

  • Develop foundation designs for equipment and buildings (Piles, Spread Footers, etc)
  • Design of steel-reinforced concrete, masonry, and/or wood
  • Design and/or upgrade/modify replacements of transformers, oil containment systems, firewalls, bus supports, circuit breakers, disconnects, structural concrete and steel supports, control boxes, cable trenches, and conduits
  • Experience in developing stormwater management facilities, site grading plans, light, medium and ultra-heavy load roadway design, reinforced concrete and water retaining structures including MSE walls, soil nail walls, as well as foundation and piling design
  • Prepare and review civil/structural calculations, drawings, construction specifications, development of engineering construction cost estimates, and coordinate with interdisciplinary design teams

Requirements

  • BS in Civil Engineering
  • 3 - 10 years experience designing civil/structural projects
  • EIT required, PE preferred
  • Experience using AutoCAD and MicroStation is preferred
  • Ability to develop plans and calculations for a variety of new and existing concrete, steel, masonry, and/or wood structures
  • Knowledge of the NYSDOT, locally administered federal aid project process for highway and bridge projects is a plus
  • Maintain a valid driver's license with a clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for final consideration
  • Read, write, and understand plans and directions given in the English language
  • Basic computer skills with the ability to create and edit Microsoft Word and Excel documents, create Outlook emails and utilize SharePoint and Microsoft Teams to communicate with other team members
  • Able to traverse a construction job site consisting of uneven ground varying in height and consistency of material, with a variation of elevation 19" or less (mud, gravel, rutted ground, etc.)
  • Able to climb and leave a ladder to a platform varying from 6' to 20'
  • Able to wear GPI required PPE, i.e., hard hats, safety vest, work boots, and/or safety glasses/goggles while working
