About the position

Mesa Associates, Inc. is seeking a Civil/Structural Engineering Associate to join our team in Chattanooga, TN. This full-time position is part of our Transmission & Distribution (PDTD) division, where you will work closely with Transmission Line Design teams to analyze and design special transmission structures. The role involves creating and checking PLS-Pole (wood, steel, concrete) and PLS-Tower Finite Element Analysis (FEA) models, as well as analyzing existing structures for added loads from reconductoring, communication antennas, or ground clearance mitigation. You will also be responsible for understanding FEA analysis of trusses and frames using PLS products, STAAD, and/or RISA. In addition to structural analysis, you will design drilled concrete shafts, driven piles, and direct embed foundations using LPile, Shaft, APile, FAD Tools, or other software as required. Modifications and strengthening for existing steel structures will also be part of your responsibilities. Responsibilities

  • Work with Transmission Line Design teams to analyze and/or design special transmission structures.

  • Design and detail modifications/strengthening for existing steel structures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering is required.
  • Less than 2 years of Civil/Structural experience is preferred.
  • Detail-oriented with the capability to carry out tasks with all necessary details.
  • Team player who works well as a member of a group.
  • Self-starter who is inspired to perform without outside help.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Civil Engineering is preferred.
  • Engineer in Training certification is preferred.
