About the position

Bechtel Corporation is seeking a Civil/Structural Field Engineer to join our team in New Albany, Ohio, where we are building a state-of-the-art semiconductor manufacturing plant. This role is critical in supporting the construction team with the technical aspects of civil, structural, and architectural scopes. The Civil-Structural Field Engineer will report directly to the Area CSA Field Engineer and will be responsible for providing direct support to superintendents and craft professionals. This includes work package creation and maintenance, quality control, quantity verifications, material take-offs, material verifications, design change coordination, and general problem-solving to ensure that project cost and time schedules are met. The project involves significant civil and structural work, including mass concreting and heavy-duty steel reinforcement. The ideal candidate should be well-versed in concrete operations and familiar with American Concrete Institute (ACI) Codes and Standards. Experience in cold weather concreting, mass concreting, cast-in-place concreting, or pre-cast structures is highly desired. Responsibilities

  • Coordinates with engineering on constructability and design issues relating to commodity installations and work sequencing.
  • Provides field engineering support and assistance to superintendents, supporting personnel in meeting cost and time schedules, verifies materials, equipment, and quality, and assures results meet design requirements.
  • Develops work plans, coordinates material take-offs and requisitions, performs and documents inspections, reports progress, and resolves conflicts in design and construction related to the installation and testing of civil commodities.
  • Performs Civil Field Engineering activities including inspections, audits, and planning to support the installation of formwork, rebar, concrete, structural steel, architectural, earthwork and performs rigging support and planning activities for material and equipment.
  • Assures procedural compliance, material control, and complete and thorough documentation of inspections for completed work.
  • Directs or performs preparation of quantity listings of field purchased material and equipment and initiates requisitions for field material purchases.
  • Supports preparation of construction drawings and schedules, design of temporary construction facilities and ensures preparation of as-built drawings and other job plans.
  • Supports planning and delivery of construction materials and equipment, assuring that proper warehousing and storage exists to ensure environmental protection.
  • Reviews specifications, purchase orders, subcontracts, inspection reports, delivery schedules, instruction manuals, and technical data to assist and advise on site.
  • Oversees and coordinates subcontractor work efforts and subcontract changes and interfaces.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a related subject from an accredited university; or in lieu of a degree, 10+ years of progressive civil related construction/craft experience, civil engineering, and/or civil field engineering experience.
  • Must be physically able to conduct field inspections and participate in project walk-downs which may require extensive walking in and around a construction site, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, using fall protection and other personal protective equipment (PPE), walking on elevated platforms, walking on uneven surfaces, and maneuvering around very small and/or confined spaces.
  • Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Demonstrated commitment to Environment, Safety and Health (ES&H).
  • Understanding of applicable Bechtel work processes, including Standard Work Process Procedures, is preferred.
  • Experience in semiconductor fab facilities is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of ACI 301, 318, 117-10, 305R, 306R.
  • Familiarity with Bechtel Standard Applications (BSAPs), including TEAMWorks, Infoworks or Aconex, BPS or DSCS, PTR or Unifier, Agile, Navisworks, and other automation tools used on Bechtel projects.
  • Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving ability.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in semiconductor fab facilities is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Bechtel Standard Applications (BSAPs), including TEAMWorks, Infoworks or Aconex, BPS or DSCS, PTR or Unifier, Agile, Navisworks, and other automation tools used on Bechtel projects.
