About the position
The Civil/Structural Substation Engineer-In-Training at David Evans and Associates, Inc. (DEA) will work within a multi-discipline team to develop efficient and reliable designs for civil activities related to renewable energy and power delivery projects. This role involves coordinating design activities, maintaining project schedules, and ensuring successful project execution across various locations in the Midwest and Western United States. The position is hybrid-friendly, allowing for flexibility in work location, with some travel required for project execution.
Responsibilities
- Perform all aspects of substation structural design, including preparation of steel performance drawings, fabrication drawings, and foundation design.
- Understand and adhere to client standards and processes while working individually or within a team to complete complex and technically challenging designs.
- Review internal and external designs for code compliance, good design practice, and constructability.
- Prepare project specifications for material and equipment purchase and installation.
- Resolve site queries, attend site meetings, and perform site inspections during the construction phase of projects.
- Maintain complete project documentation with respect to civil/structural design and construction, including all completion packages, as-built requirements, and return data information.
- Make and maintain appropriate commitments to project teams and coordinate design activities with multi-disciplined project team members.
- Maintain good working relationships with internal groups that support projects such as Procurement, Drafting, Project Management, etc.
- Maintain good working relationships with clients, material suppliers, contractors, and any others that affect the quality, schedule, and cost of projects.
Requirements
- BSCE (Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering) degree from an ABET accredited university.
- 0.5+ years of civil or structural substation design experience.
- Proficiency with structural analysis, concrete design, steel design, soil mechanics, and foundation design.
- Proficiency in structural modeling software such as STADD Pro and foundation design software such as LPile is a plus.
- Working knowledge of 3D civil software such as AutoCad Civil 3D is a plus.
Nice-to-haves
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) licensure or the ability to obtain licensure in 6 months.
