About the position

The person in this position will work on challenging civil and environmental engineering projects that focus on data collection, planning, and problem-solving within the water resources field. The role involves a variety of responsibilities that contribute to the successful execution of projects aimed at improving water quality and managing water resources effectively. Project responsibilities may include water quality sampling, surveying, field data collection at wells or project sites, erosion control inspection, and construction observation. Additionally, the position requires the preparation and monitoring of sampling equipment, data reduction, spreadsheet preparation, and the use of CADD software. The individual will also assist in the development of construction plans and specifications, as well as in the preparation of reports that document project findings and recommendations. To be successful in this role, the candidate must possess a thorough and organized approach to work, demonstrating strong attention to detail. The ability to conduct fieldwork independently is essential, as is comfort working on and around water and/or ice-covered bodies. The position requires flexibility in working style, self-initiative, and self-motivation, along with a willingness to collaborate with teams to meet clients' needs and project schedules. Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills are necessary to effectively engage with project team members and clients. Proficiency in Microsoft 365 Office, particularly Word and Excel, is also required. Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship is mandatory, along with a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct water quality sampling and field data collection at wells or project sites.
  • Perform erosion control inspections and construction observations.
  • Prepare and monitor sampling equipment for various projects.
  • Reduce data and prepare spreadsheets for project documentation.
  • Utilize CADD software for design and plan production.
  • Assist in the preparation of construction plans and specifications.
  • Contribute to report preparation and documentation of project findings.

Requirements

  • Two-year technical certificate or equivalent training and work experience directly related to the job responsibilities described above.
  • Two years of experience as a civil technician, designer, or in a related area of practice.
  • Advanced Autodesk Civil3D design and plan production skills.
  • Familiarity with preparing cost estimates based on take-offs for feasibility and/or construction projects.
  • Experience in developing, using, and interpreting construction and site development plans.
  • Experience with preparation of contract documents for construction projects.
  • Advanced mathematical and computer skills.
  • Ability and willingness to conduct field work independently.
  • Comfortable working on and around water and/or ice-covered water bodies.
  • Thorough and organized approach to work with strong attention to detail.
  • Flexible working style, self-initiative, self-motivation, and a willingness to work with teams to meet clients' needs and project schedules.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 Office, specifically Word and Excel software.

Nice-to-haves

  • Three or more years of experience as a civil technician, designer, or in a related area of practice.
  • Survey experience performing leveling, total station, laser scanning (HDS), and GPS data collection with data reduction.
  • Erosion control inspection training and experience.
  • Construction observation and project administration experience.
  • Proficiency with Bentley MicroStation, Bentley GeoPAK, Leica, or other point cloud processing software.
  • FAA Part 107 sUAS Pilot License.
