About the position

Otak, Inc. is seeking a Civil/Transportation Project Engineer who is passionate about working collaboratively and positively impacting the communities served. In this role, the engineer will engage in a variety of projects, including municipal roadways, soft and hard-surface trails, unique underpasses and bridges, site/civil projects in national parks or university campuses, and utility projects for various clients at municipal, state, federal, and private levels. The position offers the opportunity to take projects from concept through construction, allowing for a comprehensive involvement in the engineering process. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing multi-disciplinary projects and utilizing engineering judgment to transform design concepts into high-quality construction drawings and technical specifications. The ideal candidate should be motivated, detail-oriented, and enthusiastic about their work. This position can be based out of either the Redmond or Everett, WA office locations. Key responsibilities include managing tasks and teams associated with transportation projects, performing design services related to roadway and site layout, grading, drainage, utilities, and erosion control in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. The engineer will prepare construction plans using AutoCAD/Civil 3D and/or MicroStation/OpenRoads, as well as specifications and cost estimates. Additionally, the role involves planning and coordinating projects with limited supervision, assisting in assigning duties and schedules to team members, participating in preparing proposals and project scope, schedule, and budget, and providing construction support services.

Responsibilities

  • Manage tasks and teams associated with transportation projects.
  • Perform design services related to roadway and site layout, grading, drainage, utilities, and erosion control in conformance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Prepare construction plans using AutoCAD/Civil 3D and/or MicroStation/OpenRoads.
  • Prepare specifications and cost estimates.
  • Plan and coordinate projects with limited supervision.
  • Assist in assigning duties and schedules to team members.
  • Participate in preparing proposals and project scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Participate in Business Development based on strong client relationships.
  • Provide construction support services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited four-year college or university or equivalent education is required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience as a Civil Engineer, with an emphasis on transportation, public infrastructure, drainage, utilities, site development, and civic projects for municipal and private clients.
  • Professional Engineering License required, including obtaining a Washington State PE License within 6 months of hire.
  • Demonstrated experience with AutoCAD/Civil 3D and/or MicroStation/OpenRoads.
  • Knowledge of local and state regulations and codes, including AASHTO, NACTO, and MUTCD design guidelines.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a creative, professional team environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
