About the position

Huitt-Zollars, Inc. has a full-time opportunity for a Civil Transportation/Roadway Project Engineer in our Austin-TX or Dallas-TX office. This role supports the senior transportation project manager in delivering superb transportation projects and leads transportation highway and roadway design. The successful candidate will be a PE licensed in Texas with at least 8 years of transportation highway and roadway consulting experience. This is a good opportunity for an experienced PE that has TxDOT knowledge to further their expertise and mentor junior engineers while working on notable transportation projects. The Civil Transportation/Roadway Project Engineer will play a crucial role in ensuring the successful execution of transportation projects, contributing to the overall mission of the firm.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor junior staff in the development of highway feasibility and planning studies, geometric design schematics and final construction plans
  • Assist in preparation of project reports including feasibility studies, implementation plans, engineering summary reports, and drainage impact analyses
  • Manage production of construction cost estimates at all phases of the project development process
  • Lead preparation of construction standard plans, general notes, specifications and special specifications for final construction plan assignments
  • Lead daily coordination of roadway design, maintenance of traffic plans, drainage design, pedestrian and bike facility design, retaining wall layouts, stormwater pollution prevention plans, signage and pavement marking design
  • Coordinate online meetings, preparation of meeting agendas, and distribution of meeting notes
  • Supervise junior staff in the production of project deliverables as described above

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering
  • Licensed PE in the state of Texas
  • Minimum 6 years of roadway and drainage design experience
  • Motivated to advance professionally into a Senior Transportation Project Manager within 3 years
  • Working knowledge of TxDOT construction standards and practices
  • Advanced proficiency in MicroStation, ProjectWise, Open Roads, and Microsoft Office
  • Demonstrates initiative, resourcefulness, and commitment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
