About the position

Merrick & Company is seeking a college or graduate school Civil Engineering student for a paid summer internship for Summer 2025 at our Greenwood Village, CO; Denver, CO; Loveland, CO; Colorado Springs, CO; San Antonio, TX; Boise, ID; Lewiston, ID; or Coeur d'Alene, ID offices. This internship offers a unique opportunity to work on rewarding client projects while being exposed to unparalleled training and development opportunities. The summer internship will run approximately from mid-May through mid-August 2025, providing interns with a comprehensive experience in the field of civil engineering. During the internship, the selected candidate will gain technical experience in various engineering tasks related to water and wastewater design. Responsibilities will include the preparation of drawings and details, process models, cost estimates, operations and maintenance manuals, study and design reports, and other work products. Interns will also have the chance to collaborate with other disciplines, interface with clients and contractors, adhere to schedules and budget commitments, and develop skills in independent work, communication, and problem-solving. This position is designed for undergraduate or graduate students who are eager to learn and grow in the civil engineering field. The internship will not only provide practical experience but also opportunities for professional training and skill development, making it an ideal stepping stone for future career advancement.

Responsibilities

  • Gain technical experience in civil engineering tasks related to water and wastewater design.
  • Prepare drawings and details for engineering projects.
  • Develop process models and cost estimates.
  • Create operations and maintenance manuals and study/design reports.
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines and interface with clients and contractors.
  • Follow schedules and budget commitments while working independently.
  • Communicate effectively and solve problems as they arise.

Requirements

  • Must be currently enrolled and entering junior year or higher of undergraduate degree or currently enrolled in grad school.
  • Must be pursuing an engineering degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Must meet expectations for attendance and punctuality.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous internship(s) in Civil Engineering
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD Civil3D
  • Local candidates preferred
