About the position

Merrick & Company is seeking a college or graduate school student for a paid summer internship in their Civil Water Practice for Summer 2025. This internship offers a unique opportunity to work on rewarding water infrastructure projects while gaining exposure to unparalleled training and development opportunities. The internship is available in multiple locations, including Denver, CO; Greenwood Village, CO; and Boise, ID, and is designed for students pursuing degrees in Engineering, Environmental Science, Business Administration, or similar fields. The internship will run approximately from mid-May through mid-August 2025, with resumes being accepted from September to November 2024. Interviews will occur in the Fall/Winter, and offers will be extended in Winter/Spring, although the timeframe is subject to change. During the internship, students will work alongside project managers, administrators, and technical staff within Merrick's growing Water Practice. Interns will be exposed to a diverse team and a variety of topics, including water and wastewater treatment and distribution, water reuse, river and stormwater engineering, government funding services, and marketing. The internship will provide opportunities to learn and facilitate project management procedures, support outreach events, and work on related deliverables. Interns will receive water-specific training throughout the summer, covering industry vocabulary, engineering consulting basics, project management planning, and tools. Additionally, civil water interns will have the chance to complete optional summer reading focused on the management of water and the challenges facing the American West. This internship is treated as an entry-level hiring pipeline, providing a pathway for future employment with Merrick & Company.

Responsibilities

  • Gain experience working alongside project managers, administrators, and technical staff within Merrick's Water Practice.
  • Learn and facilitate project management procedures.
  • Support and attend outreach events and work on related deliverables.
  • Receive water-specific training covering industry vocabulary, engineering consulting 101, project management planning and tools.
  • Complete optional summer reading focused on water management challenges.

Requirements

  • Must be pursuing a degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Business Administration, or similar.
  • Must be currently enrolled and entering junior year or higher of undergraduate degree or currently enrolled in grad school.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), GIS, and Adobe InDesign.
