About the position

AKRF is seeking a full-time Civil/Water Resources Engineer to join our Maryland office. This position is integral to supporting our clients in the Mid-Atlantic region as they develop green infrastructure, enhance climate adaptation strategies, improve urban flood resiliency, manage stormwater, and restore streams and floodplains. The successful candidate will work closely with senior staff, gaining valuable experience and training to eventually take on the role of primary client service manager for a growing portfolio of projects, particularly in Prince George's County, MD. This role also involves collaboration with our offices in Hanover, MD, and Philadelphia, PA, on various environmental projects throughout the region. In this position, the engineer will act as the client service manager for existing water resources projects, coordinating and directing field efforts for stormwater management practice maintenance teams. Regular meetings will be held with clients, county officials, subcontractors, and regulatory agency partners, with support from senior staff. The engineer will issue task orders to subcontractors for the repair of stormwater facilities and will interpret construction documents and specifications related to stormwater management, urban flood resiliency, and stream restoration projects. Additionally, the engineer will support research, operations and maintenance, asset management, regulatory compliance, and program development tasks to enhance core engineering assignments. Managing and updating task budgets and schedules will also be a key responsibility.

Responsibilities

  • Act as client service manager for existing AKRF water resources projects in Maryland, Pennsylvania, and throughout the region.
  • Coordinate and direct field efforts for stormwater management practice maintenance teams.
  • Conduct regular meetings between client, County, subcontractors, and regulatory agency partners, with support from senior staff.
  • Issue task order work to subcontractors for repair of stormwater facilities.
  • Interpret construction documents and specifications for stormwater management, urban flood resiliency, and stream restoration projects.
  • Support related research, operations and maintenance, asset management, regulatory compliance, and program development tasks to supplement core engineering assignments.
  • Manage and update task budgets and schedules.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in Civil, Environmental, or Water Resources Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Current resident of Prince George's County, MD, or ability to become a resident within 6 months of employment.
  • 3-8 years of prior relevant experience in green stormwater infrastructure, urban stormwater infrastructure, wet weather planning/management, stream restoration, ecosystem restoration, climate adaptation planning, or related disciplines.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • EIT or the ability to obtain within 2 years of employment.
  • Desire a mix of office and field work with occasional regional travel.
  • Experience using ArcGIS preferred but not required.
  • Strong attention to detail, written and verbal communication skills, and a penchant for innovative approaches to problem solving.
