About the position

The Civilian Advocate for Victims of Sexual and Domestic Violence at UMass Amherst provides essential support and advocacy for victims and survivors of sexual and relationship violence, as well as stalking. This role involves crisis intervention, legal and medical advocacy, and collaboration with various stakeholders, including police departments and legal personnel, to ensure comprehensive support for victims navigating the criminal justice system. The position is grant-funded and requires a commitment to compliance with relevant regulations and policies.

Responsibilities

  • Provides crisis intervention and advocacy for survivors of sexual and domestic violence and stalking.
  • Assists victims in navigating police, legal, and campus conduct processes.
  • Builds and maintains effective working relationships with police departments, courts, and human service providers.
  • Coordinates and provides training related to sexual and domestic violence to partners and staff.
  • Compiles data and prepares reports on sexual and domestic violence incidents.
  • Participates in site visits and program development as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and 1 year of related experience, including familiarity with the criminal justice and legal systems.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with multiple stakeholders such as police, courts, and social service agencies.
  • Experience facilitating workshops and/or trainings.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and comfort with emerging technologies.
  • Driver's license and access to a vehicle required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in a related field.
  • Extensive experience working with police and courts.
  • Experience in crisis intervention, safety planning, and advocacy.
  • Bilingual skills are preferred.
  • Demonstrated skills in facilitating workshops or professional trainings on sexual assault and domestic violence.
