About the position

The Civilian Pay Technician position at the Department of the Air Force is primarily responsible for managing various financial functions related to the execution of the installation's Civilian Payroll Program. This role requires expertise in financial management laws, regulations, and policies, and involves providing customer service support and training to the installation workforce. The technician acts as a liaison with various agencies to ensure accurate payroll processing and compliance with financial regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the focal point and subject matter expert for all finance-related requirements of the Civilian Payroll System/Timekeeping Program, including tracking, reporting, and auditing civilian pay financials.
  • Advise management by identifying and assessing risks using data analytics for accurate reporting and problem identification.
  • Research and analyze complex payroll transactions involving multiple errors and develop resolutions or recommendations.
  • Provide advice, guidance, and oversight to lower-grade civilian pay administrators.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
  • At least one year of specialized experience at the GS-06 level or equivalent, involving knowledge of financial regulations and procedures related to civilian pay.
  • Knowledge of various associated financial and accounting systems and software products to support civilian pay responsibilities.
  • Ability to analyze data and generate reports from external and internal sources.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with the Defense Finance Accounting System (DFAS) on payroll situations.
  • Strong organizational skills for managing multiple competing requirements.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for training and report generation.
