About the position

The Claim Representative, Liability position at Travelers involves investigating and evaluating low to moderate complexity claims related to personal and business insurance general liability. The role requires effective communication with customers, thorough documentation, and adherence to company guidelines to manage claims efficiently. This position does not involve managing staff but requires a strong focus on customer service and compliance with regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Handling 1st party Personal Insurance and Business Insurance general liability claims of low to moderate severity and complexity.
  • Making contact with insured within Best Practice guidelines and returning all phone calls and emails promptly.
  • Providing clear explanations of the claims process and coverage to customers.
  • Acting as the primary contact for customers and intermediating between them and other parties.
  • Participating in extended hours duties as required.
  • Investigating and evaluating all relevant facts to determine coverage, damages, and liability of claims.
  • Documenting claims files in accordance with Best Practices.
  • Managing pending and settled claims within company averages based on claim type and complexity.
  • Establishing accurate scope of damages for building and contents losses.
  • Reviewing and analyzing policy conditions, provisions, exclusions, and endorsements pertinent to GL losses.
  • Maintaining diary follow-up on all files to ensure prompt disposition.
  • Identifying and following up on salvage and subrogation opportunities promptly.
  • Completing investigations commensurate with the financial exposure on each loss handled.
  • Managing files in accordance with established Best Practices and ensuring confidentiality of claims files.
  • Negotiating and conveying claim settlements within authority limits to insureds.
  • Writing denial letters and other complex correspondence to insureds.
  • Providing excellent customer service to meet the needs of insured, brokers, and other customers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent business experience.
  • A minimum of one year previous work experience.
  • High proficiency with Windows-based programs including Microsoft Office.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to understand and apply policies and procedures.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to work independently.
  • Solid analytical and decision-making skills.
  • Customer service orientation and empathy.
  • Excellent negotiation skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Enrolment in the CIP program is an asset.
  • Adjusters license as required based on business needs.
