About the position
The Claims Examiner will serve in the Office of the Judge Advocate General at the Naval Logistics Support Center (NLSC). This role involves analyzing and evaluating claims related to losses, ensuring all necessary documentation is provided for prompt resolution. The position requires independent examination of claims, negotiation with carriers, and preparation of summaries for supervisory review.
Responsibilities
- Analyze and evaluate all documentation and supporting evidence surrounding a claimed loss.
- Ensure all necessary information, evidence, and forms needed for prompt and just disposition are provided.
- Review Government Bills of Lading, tenders of service, tariffs, and other contractual liabilities in accordance with applicable regulations and directives.
- Use an internal claims database to track and manage assigned claims.
- Review offers of settlement and compromise from carriers as dictated by governing regulations and prudent judgment.
- Annotate files to reflect decision-making and prepare summaries of evidence when necessary to refer the file to the Supervisory Claims Examiner.
- Independently examine assigned claims and reconsideration requests.
- Negotiate carrier recovery settlements with contractors.
Requirements
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
- Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
- Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
- Must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
- Specialized experience must demonstrate examining assigned claims and reconsideration requests, analyzing documentation, requesting substantiating information, calculating monies owed, and negotiating claims.
