About the position

The Claims Manager position at the State of Minnesota involves overseeing the reimbursement approval process for workers' compensation claims related to the Special Compensation Fund (SCF). The role requires evaluating claims, ensuring compliance with Minnesota statutes, and managing stakeholder interactions. This temporary position is crucial for maintaining the integrity of the claims process and ensuring that reimbursements are handled accurately and efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Authorize reimbursement approval on workers' compensation cases for which the SCF has agreed to reimburse stakeholders.
  • Evaluate and appropriately reimburse claims based on SCF liability and documentation of expenditures.
  • Assess short and long-term SCF liabilities and analyze settlement documents.
  • Pursue repayment of overpaid amounts to insurers and deny inappropriate claims.
  • Communicate SCF policies effectively to stakeholders and provide support as needed.

Requirements

  • Two years' experience administering workers' compensation indemnity and medical claims.
  • Knowledge of Minnesota Workers' Compensation laws and rules, case law decisions, and agency policies.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, treatment methods, medications, and coding (CPT/ICD10).
  • Ability to interpret rehabilitation and medical records and reports.
  • Strong mathematical skills for calculating benefit amounts using statutory formulas.
  • Strong organizational and decision-making skills with the ability to work independently.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to interact with stakeholders.

Nice-to-haves

  • Language skills other than English (e.g., Somali, Spanish, Hmong, Karen, ASL).
  • Six months professional claims experience managing second injury and/or supplementary benefit claims.
  • Six months experience using DLI's Work Comp CAMPUS claims management system.
