About the position

The Claims Processing Specialist position at the Florida Department of Lottery involves performing analytical, customer service, and accounting functions related to the validation and payment of lottery claims. The role requires independent judgment and adherence to established policies and procedures to ensure compliance and accuracy in prize payments.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze, validate, and pay claims/tickets submitted to Lottery Headquarters using proprietary software.
  • Review and process claims/tickets for payment compliance with established rules and policies.
  • Ensure claim documentation meets eligibility and IRS tax reporting requirements.
  • Process state owed debt claims and verify debts for timely forwarding to appropriate agencies.
  • Prepare reconciliations to ensure compliance with prize payment rules and policies.
  • Maintain prize payment claim files and assist with customer inquiries via phone.
  • Support special promotions or game draws as requested.
  • Assist with quarterly audits of the Claims Processing Secured Cage.
  • Resolve issues during the payment process and assist district staff as needed.
  • Conduct all Lottery business professionally, focusing on customer satisfaction.
  • Communicate effectively with customers to resolve processing problems.
  • Train other team members and assist in drafting procedures for Claims Processing.
  • Cross-train with other teams and analyze exception claims.
  • Audit paid claims for compliance with Lottery rules and policies.
  • Research and resolve undeliverable checks and assist with document management tasks.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives and maintain knowledge of Responsible Gaming programs.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
  • Knowledge of customer service techniques.
  • Knowledge of general accounting practices and bookkeeping.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain accounting records.
  • Ability to analyze, research, report, and interpret accounting data.
  • Ability to manage confidential information and provide effective communication.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Analytical skills related to accounting and customer service.
